SVAM is about awareness, but there is more to it than that – the ultimate goal is prevention. An estimated 1.8 million Albertans have experienced sexual abuse in their lifetimes. How can you prevent sexual violence?
At the Sendero Centre, we believe that awareness is the foundation for change. Through education, conversation, and action, we can break the silence surrounding sexual violence and create a community that stands for prevention, support, and justice.
But awareness isn’t just about knowing the facts—it’s about taking action.
May is Sexual Violence Awareness Month but every month and everyday we encourage businesses, families, and individuals to get involved because when we work together, we create a community where survivors are heard, believed, and supported.
💙 Start conversations that matter.
💙 Participate in local awareness events.
💙 Share support resources.
💙 Challenge harmful attitudes.
Survivors Deserve Support—And So Does Prevention
Sexual violence is not inevitable. With awareness, education, and prevention efforts, we can stop violence before it happens. That’s why Sexual Violence Awareness Month is more than a campaign—it’s a call to action.
What can you do?
✔ Learn about consent and healthy relationships.
✔ Challenge victim-blaming attitudes.
✔ Support organizations working to end sexual violence.
✔ Encourage open conversations in your home, workplace, and schools.
Change starts here and change starts with you. Let’s commit to listening, learning, and advocating for a world free from violence. Every voice matters—every action makes a difference
If you, or someone you know has been impacted by sexual violence, abuse or trauma there is support.
