Counselling Services

The Sendero Centre offers three types of counselling services: one-on-one sessions for personalized support, a Sexual Behaviour Support Program addressing specific concerns with respectful guidance, and group sessions that foster community and shared healing. Each service provides a safe, inclusive environment to empower individuals on their journey to recovery.

  • Elementary School Programs - No Secrets (K-4)
    Grades: Kindergarten to Grade 4 Time: Two sessions, 35-45 minutes Delivery: In-person sessions only No Secrets K-4 is a personal safety program for children ages 5 – 9 with a focus on child sexual abuse prevention. No Secrets is an in-school program presented free-of-charge in two parts by the CASASC education team. What’s new: Visual images, songs, videos and books along with some leave behind materials. Alberta Education curriculum aligned Facilitated parent/teacher session add on (in-person or virtual delivery) 5 lessons are delivered on the following topics: Everyone has a body (understanding that every person’s body is unique and needs to be respected) What is public? What is private? (understanding the meaning of public and private) Bodies are private (learn about the parts of the body including the correct names for the private part of the body) My body is my own (understanding that taking care of our body is necessary for good health) Touching can be safe or unsafe (defining safe and unsafe touching and some scenarios) Secrets can be safe or unsafe (defining safe and unsafe secrets and that secrets about touching should never be kept) Personal safety network (identifying safe friends, adults and how to use a personal safety network) 3 body boundaries and 3 personal safety rules What you can expect: Age-appropriate delivery (due to the program’s sensitive nature) in a classroom setting with interactive content, including games and videos. What it’s not: Sexual education or “sex ed.” The program’s aim is strictly prevention. Our goal: Increase the personal safety of students through education and empowerment, which will prevent sexual abuse.
  • No Secrets Storytime (Pre-K to K)
    An adaptation of the No Secrets program with a focus on personal safety. Offered in one, 30-minute session, the presentation covers the same topics and messages from No Secrets, but in a more age and developmentally appropriate way using storybooks and movement activities. Perfect as an introduction to No Secrets for younger classes. Time: One session, 30 minutes Delivery: In-person only What you can expect: Age-appropriate delivery (due to the program’s sensitive nature) in a classroom setting with interactive content, including games and videos. What it’s not: Sexual education or “sex ed.” The program’s aim is strictly prevention. Our goal: Increase the personal safety of students through education and empowerment, which will prevent sexual abuse.   • iRespect Myself
    Grades: 5-6 deliverable to grades 4 upon further discussion Time: One session, 60 minutes Delivery: Virtual and In-person sessions iRespect MYSELF is a prevention program focused on empowering students to grow their self-esteem and respect for themselves as well as develop a respectful understanding of concepts and issues like emotions, diversity, communication, labels and stereotypes. iRespect MYSELF focuses on building a foundation of understanding and respect for oneself and the people around them. This program covers: Self-esteem, respecting and loving ourselves Body boundaries Communication (verbal, “I” statements, non-verbal and emotions) Communicating permission Labels and stereotypes Diversity
  • iRespect US - 1
    Grades: 5-7 Time: One session, 60 minutes Delivery: Virtual and In-person sessions iRespect US 1 is a prevention program focused on empowering students to build and maintain respectful peer relationships and contribute to healthy schools. Topics include healthy schools, healthy relationships with friends and peers, understanding personal power and communicating through conflict and disagreements. iRespect US 1 builds on the concepts learned in the iRespect MYSELF program with a focus on our relationships and how we interact with others. This program covers: Healthy schools Healthy relationships with friends and peers Understanding personal power and communicating through conflict and disagreements
  • iRespect US - 2
    Grades: 5-7 Time: One session, 60 minutes Delivery: Virtual and In-person sessions iRespect US 2 is a prevention program for students to learn skills related to building and maintaining respectful peer relationships. The program continues the learning from US 1 empowering students to respectfully respond to bullying behavior. Topics include an overview of bullying and cyberbullying behavior, the impact of this behavior and how to respond to it. iRespect US 2 focuses on our relationships and how we interact with others. This program covers: Overview of bullying and cyberbullying behaviour Impact of bullying behaviour and how to respond to it
  • Healthy Dating Relationships 101 (HDR 101)
    Grades: 8-12 deliverable to grade 7 upon further discussion Time: One session, 60-75 minutes Delivery: Virtual and In-person sessions Healthy Dating Relationships 101 (HDR101) is an overview program highlighting the basic concepts of healthy youth dating relationships. As this program provides only an overview into dating relationships content, it is ideal to start the conversation with youth about relationship dynamics. HDR101 focuses on healthy and unhealthy dating relationships, communication and conflict resolution, sexual violencethrough conversations on consent, consent laws, and sexting. This program covers: What makes up a healthy dating relationship Clear communication and conflict resolution Dating violence (emotional violence and physical violence) Sexual violence and consent, consent laws, sexting
  • Responding with Respect
    Grades: 9-12 we recommend the HDR 101 program as a pre-requisite for grades 9 & 10 Time: One session, 75-90 minutes Delivery: Virtual and In-person sessions Responding with Respect (RwR) is a workshop focusing on responding respectfully to healthy and unhealthy dating relationship breakdowns. RwR focuses around a workbook of tools and tip sheets for students to keep that helps them to understand relationship breakdowns, how to end a relationship respectfully, and helping ourselves and others. We recommend the HDR 101 program be taken first, as a pre-requisite, for grades 8, 9 & 10. This program covers: What makes up a healthy dating relationship Understanding feelings related to relationship breakdowns, anger management Ending a relationship respectfully How to help ourselves and others
  • Supporting Disclosures
    Time: 45+ minutes Who is this for: Community organizations, adult and client-facing service providers Delivery: Virtual and In-person This session will help to enhance our skills and knowledge around supporting disclosures of sexual violence. An overview of the fundamentals of responding to and supporting disclosure of sexual assault and abuse from children, youth and adults. Learn some key messages and legal obligations when it comes to reporting child abuse.
  • Introduction to Sexual Violence
    Time: 60+ minutes Who is this for: Community organizations, adult and client-facing service providers. Delivery: Virtual and In-person. The Introduction to Sexual Violence presentation is a public awareness and education presentation that introduces, and highlights definitions and concepts related to sexual violence. It provides an overview of SV, prevalence, dispelling myths & stereotypes and includes information on supporting disclosures. What it’s not: Sexual education or “sex ed.” The program’s aim is awareness of sexual violence and related services.
  • Foundations of Consent and Healthy Relationships
    Time: 60+ minutes Who is this for: Community organizations, adult and client-facing service providers. Delivery: Virtual and In-person This program offers various presentation around the topic of Consent. Definitions of consent, consent laws, ages of consent, sexting and other related topics can be discussed. Understanding the foundation of consent and healthy relationships, and how the topic can be taught to youth are also available options.

The Sender Centre Services presentation is a public awareness presentation that provides an overview of all services and programs available through the Sendero Centre.
